    Excellent product, poor quality control.

There is no question, Traeger makes a great smoker/grill. From a practical use standpoint, I am very pleased. However, this did not come with a bit of frustration. While assembling my grill, I discovered that the two front legs were different. One had a caster wheel, while the other did not. On this particular model, the legs should be without wheels. In addition, the lower left corner of the hopper was dented inward, as if it had been dropped. Now, the fun begins. Contacting customer service is definitely a challenge. Don’t expect for your situation to be immediately resolved. By phone, the wait for me was greater than two hours. I did have the option to leave my number for a callback, which in this case, I did. Finally, my callback happened about four hours later, waking me from a sound sleep. Oh, I forgot to mention, I did have an option to have a text conversation with customer derive through an automated system, however, I was advised that was also a two hour wait.I have to admit, my conversation with the costumer service with pleasant. The gentleman was courteous and did arrange to send me the correct leg for the grill, as well as a new hopper shroud. Now, on to quality control. Obviously, Traeger has none, or whoever is over QC needs to be fired. This grill, as well as others should be inspected prior to shipping. Inspections should include an audit of parts to assure that everything is included and accurate. In addition, a visual inspection looking for product damage and functional ability should be included. When customers invest a significant amount of money into a product, they should not have to experience the frustration of having to deal with situations as I had experienced.I am not knocking the product itself. Again, it’s a great grill, however, it seems like Traeger has some internal personnel issues that needs to be dealt with regarding quality control.Post script: I did receive the replacement leg as promised, however, Traeger failed to follow through with the hopper shroud. I guess I will just have to live with the dented hopper.

    Fantastic

We love it. We bought this to replace a Trager smoker that we have used continuously since 1994. We are very pleased. There is a great deal of new technology and convenience since then. The dual meat probes. The cleaner hopper with slanted insert to drain fats into its own little bucket. The deeper pellet hopper. Tge digital heat control. I can fit 2 turkeys in there, because we were worried about that. But there is just enough space. Plus, it looks great.

    FANTASIC!

Assembly took longer than expected but after a quick seasoning this thing was used 6hrs the next day. Consumed very little of the hopper and didn’t emit billowing clouds of smoke (ideal for the deck of my parents townhouse). So easy, you set temp and it gets there quickly. Then STAYS there. We even got smoke rings on the ribs!

Pellet box was dented, bent on left side near electronic control mechanism.

Not sure if damage was done during shipping or not but it is aesthetically displeasing. Haven’t fired it up yet, so not sure if electronics have been affected.

Grill Came Dented – Still Awesome

I’ll start by saying I’m a fan of Traeger and their products, my first Traeger is still in great condition after 7 years, and will be going to a friend so they can enjoy the awesomeness that is Traegering. I was happy to come across the Pro 22 for a good price and made the decision to upgrade.Assembly – easy, two people almost necessary, but if you’ve got decent upper-body strength you can flip the grill upside down to install the legs and the leg braces. The packing material provided braces the round grill while it is flipped over, which is a wonderful design.Use – if you’ve never experienced a grilling/smoking with a Traeger, I highly recommend it…there are many like it, but they simply do not compare.Shipping/Packing – as I mentioned, the packing material is useful for the install, but it does not serve to protect the grill during shipping. I received the grill and immediately unboxed to begin assembly. There was a large dent on the back of the grill which I can only assume came from shipping. The box did have a portion that was ripped but I didn’t think it would have made such a major dent. This dent is about 7″ long and is quite unsightly.I won’t be submitting a return for a new grill, but would definitely like to caution others that are more particular with how their grill will arrive. Thankfully the dent appears to be simply cosmetic. I’d like to know what the seller does in these situations, is there a replacement part that can be sent? I’m happy to install myself, but would certainly like to have a new grill that doesn’t look like it was purchased from a scratch-and-dent warehouse.

    Hit the ground running!

Out of the box, I couldn’t be happier with this earlier model Traeger Pro 22. The brand lived up to the hype on my first smoke! Ease of use, from temperature control to the Traeger app, not to mention a wealth of official Traeger video content helps you to hit the ground running. Assembly was rather simple, although I would stress that one take their word for it when they say it’s a two-person job. Do beware, drip tray protectors, drip bucket liners, pellets, grill foil for wrapping, a spray bottle for spritzing and frankly some prep space (specifically, the attachable fold-out tray at the very least): all items you are going to want to have on hand if you intend to fire this pellet grill up and enjoy your cooking experience the day it arrives. Regarding size, the Pro 22 is fine for me. It’s just my wife and I, and I am certain I could host a modest gathering, but I’d wager if I hosted more than maybe six people more than once or twice a year, I’d likely find myself wishing I’d gone up a size. That’s just my opinion though.Noteworthy is Traeger’s customer support. The live chat is responsive and accommodating. Also, mind that the listed max temp for this grill is 450 F. I bought the Traeger cast iron grill grate should I want to attempt a sear, but make sure you understand the differences between the various sorts of outdoor cookers, and make sure you’re using the right tool for the job!

    Great smoker

It was weird at first I thought it was broken because there were temp swings of 25 degrees…this is perfectly NORMAL. Traeger designed them this way so it is an average ambient temp. Great smoker, highly recommend. Aslo, use lumberjack pellets not traeger. Traeger pelleta dont put off as much smoke.

    Very upset

Came with a big dent in the back of it. I still thought I would keep it since now one would see the back of it anyway. Tried the initial setup by firing it up according to instructions the auger does not continuously turn. Goes about a third of the way then stops. I need to tap on the box it’s in then it will start for another third then stop. Continuously! Very dissapointed!

    As expected

Some reviews spoke of the poor packaging, not mine. This thing could have been dropped out of an airplane and never got dented. It took me longer to unpack and put into recycle containers than it did to put the smoker together. I am super happy with the operation of the smoker, really easy to season and operate. I did a pork shoulder for my first venture and it turned out perfect… over all very pleased..

The hopper was badly damaged when we received it

We are not sure if it will make any difference in how it works, hopefully not. But the hopper is beat up pretty bad. We don’t want to send it back unless we have to because we had to put it together.

I have the best brisket in town

Requires electricity, and the wood blobs are more expensive than an oil barrel and charcoal. But this thing is STUPID EASY. Go to the grocery, throw a brisket on your shoulder, and walk out of that store like you know what you’re doing. Like a man’s man. Even if you’re a woman. You know exactly what you’re doing. You’re trimming it like a boss, because you have a SHARP trimming knife, you’re smoking it at 225 like a boss until it hits 160-165, then wrapping it with butcher paper (or foil) and you’re gonna keep doing that until it hits 203. Wrap with a large towel and stick it in a giant beer cooler. You don’t care about the beer, you’re cooking meat. And it’s in the fridge. And if it isn’t, just drink it warm. Good beer is alright at room temp. Buy good beer. After 12 hours of resting, take that meat out and slice it like a boss. Against the grain, which changes halfway through. Pencil-width slices. Smaller fibers, against the grain, are more tender. And this, my friend, is tender.Put it on a hawaiian roll with some slaw, or just stick that glistening goodness straight in your potato hole with your greasy hands, you neandertal. You earned this reward, so enjoy it.

10 yrs ago I purchased a Traeger Lil Tex Elite grill. I used this grill until it was ruined by a storm. I ordered this grill as a replacement and am pleased by the Traeger workmanship and quality. Much improved over my first grill. Works great, I am pleased with the purchase!

    Disappointed

Part of this review is based on the smoker/grill and part on the delivery. While the smoker function is really very nice, we have not found their claim of being able to sear steaks quite accurate. After smoking steaks for minimum half and hour, then pulling them off for a half an hour to allow the smoker to finally reach 450, the putting them back on, there was little to no “searing” going on. The steaks are still good, just not great, and an hour for cooking two ribeyes seems like a long time. The delivery was horrible. First off, they delivered it to the wrong address, a house a block from ours. They dumped it in the middle of a neighbors driveway, behind a parked car. The attached photo shows the damaged box upon delivery and them upset because they can’t move their car. Unfortunately, my husband was out of town and the box was about 100 pounds and the size of a large chair. Nothing I could take care of on my own. Calling UPS and after half an hour navigating an autobot, I finally got a “we will put in an urgent message with the carrier and you will get a call back.” (I am still waiting for that call, by the way.) We finally did get the beast loaded up and transferred to our place. As we assembled it we did find it was dented on the leg bracket from its unceremoniously being shoved into the driveway, but we were able to use a pair of pliers to bend it to get the leg in.

    Would recommend

Although it was heavy as heck to put together, my husband managed. It took us a bit to figure out how to use it but we did finally. 1st we smoked chicken breast and they were okay. I may not have used the right flavor pellets so be sure you do for specific meats, poultry and fish. At 1st we thought it was broken because the pellets took 5 minutes to go into the the round part. Then we really didn’t feel the fan blowing. We just said the heck with it, let’s throw some breasts on it and although you may think it’s not smoking, it is. I am disappointed thus why a 3 star because in this picture they show it has a front tray but it does not come with one which is inconvenient as you have to hold your meat while putting on the grill and nowhere to put your utensils. I’m going to try ribs and see how it does. The grill itself does seem well made but in time we will see. I’m thinking I like my gas grill better as far as taste goes. With the smoker though you just throw on your meat, walk away and let it smoke.

    Turkey day success

It never fails, for the last three years I’ve said, next year I’ll have a Traeger. Well, it almost happened again. Four days before Thanksgiving I realized, it’s that time again. It’s time for the annual Turkey smoke. Thanks to all of ours favorite online store, I not only got a great deal, I had it In just two days. It was waiting for me when I got home the day before Turkey day. It was a breeze to put together, just be sure to have your 6 pack if brew ready. Those who purchase will know what I mean. The picture speaks for itself. Two Thumbs Up!

    Simple, robust, effective!

This is a great smoker for just about anything. I do my regular burgers & hot dogs on it but I also have cooked pork butt for pulled pork ( two 9 pound butts pictured for size reference ) and beef brisket on it. Definitely worth the money plus Treager customer service and community is great. The only negative I have to say is that the fire pot is hard to access. If there was an issue in the fire pot during a cook (hasn’t happened yet) you’d have to take out the meat then the grate then the drip pan, then the fire pot cover. These steps are also necessary for regular fire pot ash cleaning minus the meat and heat.Everything seems to be well made, durable and serviceable for the common person.Overall this is a great looking grill with more than enough room for a large meal. I would say that my money was well spent on this and I think I’ll have many good years of cooking on it!

    Amazing smoker.

I got this for my son and he absolutely loves it. I am totally enjoying the food he cooks. Since the purchase, he has cooked almost every weekend, everything from burgers and hot dogs to chicken leg quarters, ribs and a whole beef brisket. Everything has been perfect. It took a very short time to learn how to use it, but it is simple to use now.I am so glad I finally bought the Traeger. We are eating healthier because he always makes enough on weekends to enjoy some throughout the week. My job is making the sides to go with whatever he cooks.

    Very happy buyer.

Knowledgeable friend suggested this size, not too cool, like the larger model, not too hot, like the smaller one according to his experiences . The thermostat seems all over the map, don’t worry. Temp goes up, well above setting, then shuts down, creating the smoke. I avoided the blue-tooth model, seemed to generate complaints. Probes work well. Sometimes simpler is better. Need cooking tips,….Google has a ton of them.

It is super easy to use. The Traeger branded pellets and seasonings were on sale so I got all those. I cooked two racks of ribs, a tender loin, 3 salmon fillets in one go. I just put them in at different times to temps and times were correct. Next day I cooked whole chicken and three leg quarters. so far all the chicken and salmon have been the best.

Great smokers and great customer support.

What is there to dislike about this smoker? The smaller size works great for my small deck and small family. I bought the Pro 22 last fall and had only got to use it 4-5 times over the winter. I fired it up a couple weeks ago and the temperature was not keeping constant and jumping all over the place, 100-500deg. I contacted Traeger customer service and told them my problem, well after the third call to them I finally got someone to understand what my problem was, this was not totally their fault some of it belongs to me not understanding how to use modern teck. They ordered me a new temperature probe that was here in about 3 days and fixed the problem, thanks Traeger! I might add there is a 3 year warranty for the parts like this and cost me nothing except about a half hour to change the probe out, easy fix for most people.

    It caught FIRE!

The Traeger was used roughly a dozen times. Worked fine, great in fact. Then on afternoon it had been on for hours while smoking a brisket. Turned the temp from 225 to smoke. The auger apparently started pushing out too many pellets. Did not realize this as was busy doing other things and have had it on smoke before to finalize the meat. Due to too many pellets being spit into the main part of the grill, they started piling up, and caught fire. The interior was destroyed and it ended up melting part of the exterior near the drip pail and front. Contacted Traeger who have washed their hands of it. Saying not covered under warranty. Saying fires happen due to maintenance issues. We were religious about caring for this smoker and it was cleaned at each usage. They are refusing to address. Stating can send replacement parts, at my expense, but sorry, we won’t stand by our produce. We are thankful that the fire did not damage our house as the smoker was on our deck near the house. Will not purchase a Traeger again after this experience. Very disappointed they will not provide adequate support. Spend hundreds of dollars on this item, it faults, and sorry, s*** out of luck.

No more going out for BBQ!

First off, although I like to cook, I am no BBQ chef… I have no hats or shirts proclaiming it, either. But I have been able to cook very tasty brisket, pulled pork, and even ribs with no difficulty whatsoever. I haven’t been OUT for BBQ since I’ve owned it, and everyone has loved the end product(s).However, I have had TWO issues… so we bought this three years ago. Still using it. But even with a cover in sunny SoCal, I’m already getting rust on the lower area of the grille. And a year or so ago, I had to dismantle the grille as the auger had become hung up and it would no longer function. It was a HUGE PITA. No, not a pita sandwich, I love those. A pain in the a$$.We really have loved how everything comes out with the Traeger, but it’s not without issues. Perhaps all electric smokers have these issues, but when this one gives out, I’ll probably try another brand.

I purchased this before Thanksgiving to cook my turkey. The flavors were to die for, it is second to a fried turkey. Easy to assemble, I was cooking in less than an hour. You’ve got to buy a traeger for the flavor. This is a perfect size for a small family.

Great grill, but check your parts

We bought as a Christmas present to ourselves for 2020. Followed all assembly instructions and pre-heat/first use guidelines. It would not come up to temperature (stayed around 160 degrees). We called Traeger directly—the induction fan was not working at all on our brand new Traeger. Thankfully they were super helpful and sent us a replacement free of charge. They told us it would arrive in 2 weeks, but we received it in a few days. We replaced the fan, and now the grill is working great. In addition to this issue, there were also two dings on the hopper lid from shipping. We noticed this prior to the fan issue and did not want to send it back for something cosmetic. However, I would recommend checking out your entire grill and making sure everything works correctly before pitching the shipping box. We are happy with the grill, but for the price and the fact that it was brand new, did not expect to run into such an issue on its first power up.

Easy to use, but needs shelf/tool area

This is my first pellet grill, I went with Traegar since everyone I worked with loves them. I am very happy with it for the most part. I did not go with the wifi model, I could not see spending an extra $250, although I was tempted. It does give a great smoky flavor, assembly is super easy…30 minutes, and my wife likes the ease of use. It needs at least to have hooks to hang tools and maybe a shelf to place food on. I went and bought a rolling cart with tool rack and a place to lay food on. I grilled some burgers which had a great taste, but it does not charbroil as well as a gas grill. All in all, I am happy with purchase!

    My 2nd Traeger, 1st one US made lasted 15yrs, 2nd one ?

Break-in following manufacturers instruction went ok except for the augur making grinding, popping, screaching noises from time to time. Augur noises stoped after 10 minutes or so.After a couple of long smokeing uses with quality food results. I noticed that during the 3rd use on the smoke setting that quite a bit of smoke was backing up into the pellet hopper, so I decided to check the fire pot to see if it needed cleaning. Again this is after what I think would be 3 average uses. Discovered the fire pot 1/2 filled with this slag like material, or sand that got hot enough to became a conglomerate mass? Photo #2 chunk is next to a business card to show size.Waiting for reply from manufacturer. Will update post if allowed.

    Great Buy

I always wanted a smoker, so I asked my brother which brand was the best. I have only used it twice since buying it. Waited to write a review until using it again. First time I smoked steaks and they came out so juicy and tender. The next time I smoked two whole chickens and short ribs. The meat was so juicy and had a great smokey taste. My family really love it. This is the best meat and it out did my charcoal grill. All I can say is wow. I would recommend this product to anyone. Try it for yourself and you will not be disappointed.

    Glitchy

I want to like this smoker, i really do, but it is unreliable.I have had it a bit over 3 years and I take really good care of it, but for the past year at least I have had it randomly shut off with an error code and a fire. The machine appears to pump out pellets too fast, especially at higher temps. (the error is HEr)It is typically okay at lower temps, but I HAVE had it stall out over longer cooks even at 180 degrees.Set the thermostat to “high” and it will error out within 20 minutes.I don’t recommend this smoker.

Allow ample time to experiment, it’s a totally new way to grill. Also I’m the envy of the Hood!

I enjoy the challenge grilling with this Traeger, Pro Series 22. I’m still on a learning curve and that translates to patience. Sometimes when you think the food should be done, pour yourself another beer! So what could be so bad about that?

Was awesome until it started “overheating”

LOVED this thing but after about 8 months it began “overheating”. I read online to clean the temp gauge which worked once, but then it happened again. It just turns off because it thinks it’s too hot and goes into shutdown mode. Super frustrating!

IF you need a grill – THIS IS IT!!!!

Traeger Grill was a replacement for a Weber 3 burner propane grill with a cast iron grilling surface. I did the usual steak, chicken, hamburg, etc. Then the grilling surface started flaking apart, and the “stainless steel” burners were getting corroded and needed replacement, BUT the “stainless steel” mounting screws could not be removed. Besides, the Weber had hot spots & not so hot spots when cooking. Not to mention the grease FLAME UPS during cooking. The TRAEGER has s small fire box in the bottom middle where the pellets are burned, pellets are fed via an auger (added as needed to maintain desired internal grill temperature). Above fire box is a heavy duty steel sheet for heat distribution, above that is another sheet of steel (on a slight angle) to direct runoff grease into a collection bucket (NO FLAME UPS!!!!). ALSO the cooking surface is a porcelain grill (can you say EASY CLEANUP???)I have had my Traeger just over a month. I stated with the usual, chicken, steak & hamburgers. A week ago decided to go out on a limb with a saw, we were hosting a birthday party with about 10 guests AND decided to do my first ever SMOKED BRISKET. Well after a nice long slow smoke & cooking (9 hours), the 12# brisket slices could be cut with a fork. After we all ate, guests cut off leftovers to take home, we were left with about a pound.Yes, the Traeger is expensive, but so is replacing other grills about every 8>10 years. I was looking to buy another propane grill, but after looking at the Traeger and talking to another Traeger owner – I went Traeger. Should have done it YEARS ago!!!! I would give it 10 STARS if I could!!!!!!!!You can’t go wrong getting one for yourself.

Some good and some not so good

I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Traeger. So disappointed to discover a huge dent in the corner of the pellet box, but we put it together anyway because the thought of packaging this behemoth back up to ship was more of a pain than just accepting the blemish. The first cook was a grilled chicken breast with pineapple. It was good but no carmelization of the food occurred so the appearance was unappealing. The second cook was smoked chicken. It was beautiful and juicy and completely delicious! The third cook was steak. I was completely disappointed in the result. No carmelization whatsoever it might as well have been boiled.Third cook was grilled meatloaf. I expected to just set the Traeger to cook and check the meat when the time was up. The pellets tunneled and stopped feeding in to the fire pot so the temperature dropped and I had to just finish cooking in the oven as it was taking too long to get the grill to restart. The smoky flavor of the meatloaf was excellent though. It never occurred to me that I would not be able to get a good sear on the meat when grilling with the Traeger so I’m a bit disappointed in that aspect, but the use as a smoker is is good.
